One stop shop for transformational leadership. Bass and Riggio mentioned in the last chapter that the intent of this book is to provide a better understanding of transformational leadership and to review researches that this model has stimulated in a short span of time. I am not too sure about providing better unders I read this book to find materials for my upcoming doctoral thesis proposal.
I am not too sure about providing better understand part because the description of TL in chapter 1 was rather sparse and I suppose, the authors expects the reader to already have some back ground on this subject.
I have had previous knowledge about TL from my MBA works so I could dive straight into the subject , but had I not have this background, the description as provided in chapter 1 may be a little wanting. But hey, that is just me.
AS for reviweing researches, thats aplenty. For a book recommended as supplementary material for academics, this was a surprisingly easy read and was engaging enough for me to avoid falling off track. Comprising 15 chapters, this book kicked off with a round up of what to expect in the proceeding chapters, some description of TL and the full range leadership FRL model. The second chapter discusses the various methods of measurement with MLQ being one of the usual suspects. Chapter 3 discusses how TL enhances loyalty while chapter described how TL affects the leader, the followers and group performance.

Chapter 5 connects the TL with stress comparing against transactional leadership style, which is said to induce more stress, while chapter 6 shows how TL deals with contingencies. Chapters 7 thru 9 discussed the context of TL in culture , gender and the implications of TL for organizations.
It is interesting to note that studies of gender in the TL context thus far reveals that women, are observed to be much much more transformational than the male colleague, who tends to be more MBE in comparison.
Can a TL be trained? This was dealt with in chapter 10 and can we predict the development of a TL was the subject of Chapter Rank status, empowerment and substitutes were the final three subjects discussed in this book before the book was concluded with futute subject of study to be carried out to fill up the gaps in knowledge of transformational leadership.

It was likely beyond my level, as there was no pop psychology, but mainly complex algebraic formulas explaining leadership theory in it's quantum form.
